The Federal Government has launched the Federal Tertiary Institutions Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP) to enhance accountability, transparency, and data-driven decision-making in Nigeria’s higher education system.

The platform was unveiled at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja by the Minister of Education, Chief Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (FAMedS, CON), who described the initiative as “a milestone in modernising tertiary education governance and rebuilding public trust.”

According to Dr. Alausa, the FTIGTP will serve as a unified national database that provides real-time information on student enrolment, funding, grants, and performance indicators across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

He added that the platform will promote transparency, efficiency, and performance-based funding, noting that future government interventions will depend on institutions’ compliance with accountability standards.

The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmed, said the platform aligns with the ministry’s digital transformation drive, while former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka, described the project as “visionary and research-driven.”

Leaders of tertiary institutions, including Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts, also pledged support for the initiative, promising to collaborate with the Ministry to ensure its sustainability.

Developed by the Nigerian Education Data Initiative (NEDI), the platform can be accessed via transparency.education.gov.ng.

The launch of the FTIGTP underscores the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to accountability, innovation, and excellence in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
